In this session at our 2017 Ecsite Conference, we delve into the art of crafting immersive experiences for museum visitors. The m is to engage individuals on various levels – physically, cognitively, and emotionally – fostering a holistic visitor experience that resonates deeply.
The quest for creating these immersive environments lies within our arsenal of modern technology like virtual reality VR, augmented reality AR and advanced digital interfaces. However, traditional methods play an equally crucial role in captivating audiences and stimulating their senses.
Our panelists bring forward compelling examples that showcase the integration of VR through interactive headsets to fully immerse visitors into digital realities. Moreover, hands-on demonstrations with AR illustrate how overlaying digital content onto real-world spaces can enhance the visitor's experience without disconnecting them from tangible surroundings.
We also highlight the potential of walk-throughand dioramas as time-honored techniques for transporting guests into alternative worlds. The session explores both innovative and classical approaches to create immersive exhibits that m not just to educate, but to evoke emotions.
To provide a more comprehensive understanding, this presentation :
1 Outline various immersive experiences being implemented in different museums worldwide.
2 Discuss methodologies and technologies behind these experiences.
3 Present insights on how traditional elements like physicalcan still play a significant role alongside technology in the creation of immersive exhibits.
Facilitated by Dr Bernadette Schrandt, an expert on Mediatised Experiences in Heritage from Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, this session is structured to encourage discussions and share best practices between industry professionals.
Join us as we uncover how leading museums utilize technology and traditional techniques alike to design engaging experiences that leave lasting impressions on visitors.
We m to explore key questions such as:
How can immersive exhibits effectively combine digital and physical elements?
What metrics do museums use to measure the impact of these experiences on their audience?
Can traditional methods still captivate audiences in today’s tech-driven world?
By participating in this session, you will gn valuable insights into creating memorable museum experiences that not only educate but also ignite curiosity and passion for knowledge.
