In the heart of Jiangsu Province lies a treasure trove that embodies the essence of Nanjing's intangible cultural heritage. This illustrious collection boasts four globally recognized masterpieces - China Guqin Art Jinling School, China Nanjing Yunjin Brocade Manufacturing Techniques, China Engraved Block Printing Techniques Jinling Scripture Engraving Printing Techniques, and China Paper-cutting Nanjing style - which have been honored by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of ity. These treasures each possess their own dedicated pavilions at the Nanjing Folk Museum.
The showcase also delves into 90 other local intangible cultural practices, encompassing vibrant folk traditions like damadeng dance, longyingche dragon cart procession, and Nanjing exorcism dance in Dongba town, a theatrical festival in Xuecheng town, Jiang Pu's lion dance performance art, the mesmerizing Qinhu lanterns, Liuzuo wind and percussion ensemble, gold foil forging technique, goldsmithing and filigree craftsmanship, tales of Tuiweilong leg among many others.
Visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in an interactive experience - try their hand at lion dance, pose with damadeng horse figures, beat Liuzuo drums, or learn about global intangible cultural heritage. The space design is characterized by simplicity and vivacity that highlight themes innovatively while spreading culture and fostering interaction.
In the Yunjin Brocade zone, visitors are treated to a grand display of Ming-Qing palace-style architecture, life-sized loom replicas, and exquisite brocades, encapsulating the splor of Nanjing's Yunjin heritage. The Jinling Scripture Engraving area, enriched with antique engravings and scripture books on shelves, offers a visual feast with exhibition panels that spotlight the artistic charm of Jinling engraving techniques.
A separate space features live demonstrations of craftsmanship for experience. In the paper-cutting section, abstract designs and engaging graphics tell stories of prosperity and joy, inviting hands-on participation from attees. The Guqin area presents a bl of simplicity and elegance through guqin performances, primitive artwork displays, multimedia videos, showcasing the unique istic spirit and cultural sophistication associated with this ancient art form.
Lastly, the Kun Opera showcase highlights its connection to Jinling, celebrating the various schools, representatives, works, and charm that define this dynamic traditional theater art.
This event is a celebration of Nanjing's intangible cultural heritage, weaving together the past, present, and future through a rich tapestry of performances, demonstrations, exhibitions, and hands-on experiences.
