Transforming the Museum Experience: Revolutionizing the Visitor Journey with Cutting-edge Audiovisual Solutions

Museums have long served as portals of knowledge and inspiration, bling art, technology, and narrative to engage diverse audiences. At Onionlab, we are dedicated pioneers in the field of audiovisual AV design, collaborating with leading institutions worldwide to redefine museum experiences through innovation.

In this piece, we delve into how Onionlab’s transformative AV solutions have reimagined museums as dynamic spaces for exploration and engagement, highlighting projects such as the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Dub 2020, Expo Yeosu 2012, our artistic creation Crossroads, an installation at Venice Biennale Towards Biology, and Phasing Rn at Es Baluard Museum.

SPN PAVILION AT EXPO DUB 2020: A Journey Through Innovation and Sustnability

The Spn Pavilion at Expo Dub 2020 was a beacon of innovation and sustnability, showcasing Spn’s technological prowess, cultural heritage, and commitment to a greener future. At Onionlab, we fused AV elements with the architecture to create an immersive experience that not only celebrated Spn’s achievements but also projected its vision for the sustnable future.

Our interactive forest within the pavilion was a highlight, integrating projection mapping onto various surfaces for an engaging visual experience. It featured a world map transformed into a dynamic display using advanced projection techniques, offering visitors a compelling journey through Malaspina II expedition's footprint as it collected water samples and conducted research on global ocean currents.

EXPO YEOSU 2012: Dimaxion and Deep Ocean - Celebrating the Oceanic Wonders

Dimaxion at Expo Yeosu was an awe-inspiring projection mapping installation that followed in the footsteps of the Spanish expedition Malaspina II. Using advanced projection techniques, we created a captivating animation on world maps spanning walls, providing visitors with an immersive voyage through historical marine exploration.

Deep Ocean, another exhibit, showcased life at depths reaching up to 5,000 meters - a realm filled with bioluminescent creatures that are usually inaccessible to eyes. This installation, featuring an impressive 8-meter screen and immersive sound design, became a highlight of the Spanish Pavilion by bringing visitors face-to-face with marine marvels.

CROSSROADS AND THE VENICE BIENNALE: The Intersection of Art, Technology Storytelling

Crossroads and our collaboration at Venice Biennale Towards Biology exemplify Onionlab's capability to bl AV techniques with thought-provoking themes. These installations engaged visitors in a dialogue between history and contemporary issues such as climate change and water scarcity.

By combining light, sound, and narrative design, we created an immersive experience that allowed audiences to reflect on these critical matters at their own pace, enhancing personal connections through interactive elements like dynamic LED lighting that responds to the soundscape.

PHASING RN - A Symphony of Sound, Light Water

For Es Baluard Museum’s 16th anniversary, Onionlab and Xavi Bove Studio designed Phasing Rn as a tribute to its historical significance while addressing current challenges. This installation resonated with attees through its harmonious bl of light and music set within the old freshwater cistern.

Phasing Rn not only celebrated Es Baluard's heritage but also invited visitors to contemplate pressing issues by engaging them in an immersive audiovisual experience that connects past, present, and future perspectives.
