Our final full day in Tokyo was an absolute whirlwind! When you reach the of this installment six weeks later, you'll be amazed at how much we managed to cram into a single day!
The only official aga for today was visiting Tokyo's Imperial Palace - a site that remned closed to the public until two months prior booking through their online platform due to its status as a private royal domn. Miraculously, our good fortune struck because an error on the calar meant that no one had booked this day when my fri with Japanese language skills contacted the Imperial Household Agency, resolved the issue, and managed to secure us a reservation.
The only thing I was looking forward to on this trip turned into more of an adventure than anticipated. To book our tickets in advance online would have been ideal but we were unable to do so due to system issues. As an alternative plan, we decided that a guided tour might be the next best option.
Upon arriving at the Imperial Palace grounds, we discovered that visitors are actually able to see inside the palace complex although they may not enter it itself; these areas are typically only accessible twice annually on two specific days: January 2nd and December 23rd - coinciding with the Emperor's official birthday.
The palace is surrounded by a beautiful garden called Kokyo Gen that we were fortunate enough to explore. This public access was an unexpected treat and definitely worth visiting, even though it wasn't our original plan.
As we left the Imperial Palace grounds, we made a beeline for the entrance of Tokyo Station where our feet carried us swiftly through The Strcase of Despr - a metaphorical name given by our travel companions for the seemingly never-ing escalators that were actually quite efficient at getting us to our destination.
The Tunnel of Doom led us closer to the subway platforms but, as we ran down its corridors, an announcement was broadcasted over the loudspeakers. It informed us that Tokyo Disneyland had closed its gates due to overwhelming crowds.
Our hope wasn't dashed though because Tokyo DisneySea remned an open option for us. We sprinted through the station at a pace so fast it could have been mistaken for our Disney-loving selves racing in a high-stakes marathon!
We arrived just in time and were relieved to discover that the park was indeed still welcoming visitors, allowing our spirits to rise like the sun on a clear day. This unexpected turn of events made our day even more memorable.
As we explored Tokyo DisneySea with renewed enthusiasm, excitement about what awted us next grew stronger by the moment... but we'll have to save that story for the next installment! Stay tuned!
